The Forest Bride

Hard to remember mortality

When pulled into the evergreen,

You will be married into the trees

Roots wrapped around you like jewellery

Chanting bitter chlorophyll truth.

Hard to tell with a bird’s song –

Sorrow from joy,

Exposed above the canopy

Is a safer place to be,

But you are tangled up in the story beneath.

Hard to tell from carpeted footfall

If you are running from or running towards.

The forest loves forever

And your path is lost;

You were welcomed and are welcome to stay.
